Justification: A tree endemic to Ecuador, where at least 17 populations have been recorded in the eastern and western Andes. The western populations are probably more threatened because they suffer more deforestation than the eastern slopes. Protected inside the Parque Nacional Sumaco-Napo-Galeras, and probablyalso in the Parque Nacional Llanganates, the Parque Nacional Sangay, and the Reserva Ecológica Antisana. The only type specimen was apparently destroyed in the Berlin herbarium during the Second World War. Common name "porotillo". Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known. |
