Justification:
A subshrub endemic to southern Andean Ecuador, where it is known exclusively from two populations: a 1944 collection made on the roadside 140 km south of Cuenca and another recorded in the nineteenth century in an unknown locale. Considered Endangered due to the drastic alteration of its habitat during the twentieth century. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
