Justification:
A subshrub endemic to dry inter-Andean valleys of northern Ecuador, where two relatively large populations are known. One is in the Río Guayllabamba valley and the other is in the Chota valley (along the Río Mira). In the Chota Valley, the natural vegetation is being replaced by sugar cane plantations.
