Justification: A shrub or tree endemic to Ecuador's dry coastal forest, where it is known from seven localities. The species is protected inside the Bosque Protector Cerro Blanco, near Guayaquil, and the Bosque Petrificado de Puyango, in Loja province. Additional populations probably occur in Peru. Infrequent around Guayaquil, but occurs in clumps near creeks in the Bosque Petrificado de Puyango (C. Bonifaz, pers. comm.). Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known. |
