Justification:
A shrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is known only from the type, collected by E. André in 1876 between Guayaquil and Santa Rosa, Guayas province. The precise collection site is unknown and the species has not been recorded in more than 100 years. Given the near-total destruction of Guayaquil's forests, the species may be extinct. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
