Justification:
A tree endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from a single population recorded on Cerro El Centinela, to the west of the Río Palenque private reserve. The area has been almost totally deforested and probably the species is locally extinct. The last collection from El Centinela was by W. Palacios in 1991. Several other endemic species like Bauhinia flagelliflora and some Gesneriaceae are (or were) exclusively known from El Centinela. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
