Justification: A shrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from three populations in dry coastal forest. Infrequent in the Bosque Protector Cerro Blanco, near Guayaquil, and also recorded in the Capeira forest north of Guayaquil. The type was collected more than 100 years ago in dry forest in the northern coast of Manabí, between Bahía de Caráquez and Jama, but not recorded again in this area. The holotype was apparently destroyed in the Berlin herbarium during the Second World War. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known. |
