Justification: Centaurium sebaeoides is endemic to the islands of Kaua'i, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and Lana'i, in Hawaii. Eleven subpopulations currently are known. In 1997 there were estimated to be between 6,300 and 6,600 individuals. In 1999 the population had fallen to 60–80 individuals. The cause of this population decline was mainly drought. The current population is threatened by habitat degradation caused by ungulates, competition with alien plants, fires, coastal development, and trampling by humans. |
