Justification:
A herb or subshrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from a single collection on Volcán Pichincha above Quito, in 1864. Considered Critically Endangered or Extinct after 136 years with no new records. During this period most of Quito's original vegetation has been destroyed. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
