Justification:
Estimated to have declined substantially (50-80%) over the past three generations (120 years) due to local trade in ornamental plants and habitat degradation. Whitelock (2002) considered this species as being possibly Extinct in the Wild.

Geographic Range [top]

Range Description: This species is widespread but sporadic, in the northwestern region of Guangdong and eastern region of Guangxi provinces of China. Subpopulations are also found in the southwestern region of the Hunan and southeastern region of the Yunnan provinces. Despite its name, this species is not known to occur in Taiwan. Has been recorded from 400 up to 1,100 m asl.

Population: The population size is estimated to number between 1,00 and 5,000 mature individuals.
Population Trend: Decreasing

Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology: Grows on steep slopes on shallow skeletal soils. Plants are found in sunny, grassy places or sparse, mixed forests, often disturbed places. The climate is warm to hot and humid all year.

Major Threat(s): This species has been severely depleted by collection from the wild. Habitat destruction over the centuries has also had a major effect on the populations.
