Habitat and Ecology: N. mirabilis is found in a remarkable range of habitats, but usually is most abundant in disturbed, swampy, or grassland areas. Mostly it is found at low altitudes (up to 200 m), but can occur up to 1,000 m, and, more rarely, to 1,500 m.
