Justification:
A tree endemic to Amazonian Ecuador, where it is known from two sites in the buffer area of the Parque Nacional Yasuní, in land belonging to the Quichua community of Pompeya, between the Napo and Tiputini rivers along the pipeline road. Probably protected inside Yasuní park, but apparently very rare; quantitative inventories of 200,000 stems in Yasuní failed to turn up a single individual of this distinctive species (N. Pitman et al., H. Romero-Saltos et al., R. Valencia et al., unpublished data). Seeds obtained from a tree in Pompeya have been planted in silvicultural experiments in the Jatun Sacha private reserve. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
