| Taxonomic Notes: |
Caucasian and Russian botanists usually refer to this taxon as a distinct species, Pinus eldarica; however, its distinctive characters are minor and may not warrant taxonomic recognition at all. A critical taxonomic revision involving the species pair P. brutia – P. halepensis is overdue and should include this taxon. The use of DNA sequence analysis in such a study is paramount, as morphology is not very informative in these species. |

The range of this variety of Pinus brutia remains imperfectly known and an assessment of its conservation status is also made difficult for lack of information about trends at (sub)population level.

The only certain population occurs on the Azerbaijan-Georgia border. May also occur in Azerbaijan and Iran. The range of this variety of Pinus brutia remains imperfectly known (Farjon 2005).
