Scientific Name: Podocarpus pallidus
Species Authority: N.E.Gray

Assessment Information [top]

Red List Category & Criteria: Vulnerable   D1+2   ver 3.1
Year Published: 2007
Assessor/s: Farjon, A. (RBG Kew)
Reviewer/s: Farjon, A. & Gardner, M. (Conifer Red List Authority)
Justification:
This species appears to be endemic to ‘Eua, an island in the Tongatapu Group of the Tonga Archipelago with an area approximately 30 × 10 km, which gives an EOO of 300 km2 or, probably, less and an AOO likely to be less than 20 km2. It has been collected there since 1926 until recently. No collections are known to us from Tongatapu. It has been collected from four localities (but there may be collections we have not seen from other locations). Because this species is a minor component in montane forest, we assume there are fewer than 1000 mature trees on the island. We have no information about possible decline.
History:
1998 Data Deficient (Oldfield et al. 1998)
1997 Rare (Walter and Gillett 1998)
