Brunei Darussalam; Indonesia (Kalimantan, Sumatera); Malaysia (Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak)
|
| Habitat and Ecology: | A gregarious, often dominant tree of lowland freshwater swamp and peat-swamp forest. |
| Systems: | Terrestrial |
| Major Threat(s): | Subpopulations have been heavily depleted as the most important source of ramin timber. The species is also threatened in parts of its range by habitat loss. A recent investigation by Dutch and Malaysian experts, following CITES debates on the species, concluded that G. bancanus is not threatened with extinction in Malaysian swamp forests although regeneration in overexploited forests may be a cause for concern. |
