Assessment Information [top]

Red List Category & Criteria: Data Deficient     ver 3.1
Year Assessed: 2009
Assessor/s: Devi, R. & Boguskaya, N.
Reviewer/s: Collen, B., Darwall, W., Ram, M. & Smith, K. (SRLI Freshwater Fish Evaluation Workshop)
Justification:
Y. macrogaster has been assessed as Data Deficient due to it's small distribution, the fact that this species is only known from it's type locality, and that human settlement in the area is a potential threat to the species.
History:
1996 Vulnerable

Geographic Range [top]

Range Description: Y. macrogaster is found only in Tatantze, an endorheic basin in Louping County, Yunnan, China.

This species has an estimated Extent of Occurrence of 7,447 km², which was found by locating Tatantze in a gazetteer and calculating the area of the basins surrounding this location.

Systems: Freshwater

Threats [top]

Major Threat(s): There are three introduced cyprinids (Hemiculter leucisculus, Abbottina rivularis and Pseudorasbora parva) present at the site where Y. macrogaster was discovered (Dudgeon 2000); however it is not thought that these species prey on or compete with Y. macrogaster.  There are several human settlements in close proximity to the site which may threaten the species (Kottelat and Chu 1988).

Conservation Actions [top]

Conservation Actions: It is not known if there are any conservation measures in place or needed.
