Gekko auriverrucosus has been assessed as Data Deficient as it is only known from the type locality and its habitat preferences are unknown. It is likely that this species is impacted by habitat degradation, however, it is unknown if this is acting as a major threat. Further research is needed on this species before a more accurate assessment of its conservation status can be made.

Range Description: This species is known only from the type locality in Hejin County, Shanxi Province, China (Zhao and Adler 1993). One specimen of this species was collected at 459 m above sea level.
