Geographic Range [top]

Range Description: Gallicolumba norfolciensis, from Norfolk Island (to Australia), was painted by Hunter in 17902 and described by Latham in 1801 based on this and on correspondence from 1788-17901. Subfossil remains have subsequently been found and referred to this species1.

Habitat and Ecology: Nothing is known, although it may have been a forest dweller.

Major Threat(s): It presumably became extinct in about 1800, due to overhunting and predation by introduced cats and rats1.
