Assessment Information [top]

Red List Category & Criteria: Critically Endangered   B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii)   ver 3.1
Year Assessed: 2008
Assessor/s: Leary, T., Seri, L., Flannery, T., Wright, D., Hamilton, S., Helgen, K., Singadan, R., Allison, A., James, R., Bonaccorso, F. & Lunde, D.
Reviewer/s: Lamoreux, J. (Global Mammal Assessment Team) & Amori, G. (Small Nonvolant Mammal Red List Authority)
Justification:
Listed as Critically Endangered (Possibly Extinct) because its extent of occurrence is less than 100 km2, all individuals are in a single location, and there is continuing decline in the extent and quality of its habitat. This species is known only from a tiny island. There have been six recent collecting efforts that have failed to locate this species, so it may be possibly extinct. Its extent of occurrence and area of occupancy meet the criteria for CR B1 and B2. Even if it extends to adjacent islands within the island group, it would still qualify under CR B1 and possibly B2.
