Habitat: Fresh to saline water of coastal lakes, reservoirs, estuaries and lagoons, in shallow, well vegetated habitats.
Biology: Lives less than two years. Spawns after first winter, at 20 mm SL. Spawns in March-July. Individual females may spawn several times during a season. Males defend eggs in cavities under stones, plant material or mollusc shells. Eggs hatch at 3.0-3.8 mm. Feeds on small invertebrates.
